Recently, the world's first 500kV vegetable oil transformer, led by China Southern Power Grid Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau, was put into operation at the 500kV Zengcheng Substation in Guangzhou. As the transformer with the highest operating voltage level in the world, its birth has filled the international gap in the practical application of 500kV natural ester insulating oil transformers.

It is reported that the vegetable oil transformer uses about 65 tons of vegetable oil, which can reduce carbon emissions by 72.8 tons, equivalent to the carbon emissions of 250,000 cars driving 1 kilometer. Compared with traditional transformers, its noise is reduced by nearly 30%, and the vegetable insulating oil can be completely degraded naturally, fundamentally eliminating the risk of soil and water pollution caused by traditional mineral oil leakage. At the same time, it has the characteristics of high reliability and strong overload capacity, which can effectively improve the stability of power supply.
